Imani Enterprises presents the second installment of Black Like She a comedy show that is the brainchild of Amani/Anne-Marie Woods. This all-female comedy showcase takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to the experience of being a Black woman in Canada and lets you know that there’s no such thing as an angry black woman, just a funny one! Coko & Daphney, Hoodo Hersi and Host and MC Amani will lead the audience in a hilarious night of stand-up and improv comedy.

This is a 19+ show, intended for mature audiences only.

Amani/Anne-Marie Woods is the winner of the 2013 BBPA Harry Jerome Award for Excellence in Entertainment, the Bob Marley Day Award and an East Coast Music Award. Amani is a multi-disciplinary artist known for her spoken word, arts education workshops, producing, playwrightting, spoken word and having a Quirky sense of humour. Wearing many hats she will have two plays on stage in 2019. The World Premiere of  “Scotian Journey”  at Black Theatre Workshop in Montreal – a play about a young lady from Africville getting ready to head back to Nova Scotiaon and The Three Friends at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing arts – a play on African Canadian History that teaches about Viola Desmond Mattieu Da Costa and other key stories that we don’t learn in school.

She got her start doing comedy with her One Woman Shows in the Atlantic Fringe Festival in Nova Scotia. Her first show I’m Just Sittin at the Derby Waiting for My Ship to Come In, was part of Harbourfront’s Omiala Festival, and Waiting to Explode, was a main stage show at the National Black Theatre Festival in North Carolina in 2001. Her stand-up debut back in the day was at The Second City’s Eclectic Circus hosted by Lisa Merchant. Over the years she’s been performing in the Second City Diversity Nights, several Storytelling Events in the GTA and most recently was a featured comedian in Black and Funny.  Excited to be producing the second installment of BLACK LIKE SHE,  Amani will literally get you out of your seat and on to he stage because her shows always have an interactive component.

Coko & Daphney the dynamic improv comedy duo based in Toronto, Canada. Together, they have performed all over North America including New York, Boston, Just For Laugh’s alternative festival OFF-JFL/ZOOFEST in Montreal and most recently opened for Gina Yashere and Cathy Jones at the Harbourfront’s Brave Festival. Hoodo Hersi is a Toronto-based comedian who recently was selected as a Homegrown Talent at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal, where her performance will air on the Comedy Network. She has performed in clubs and festivals all over Canada and the United States, including the Winnipeg Comedy Festival and the BBC World Service Montreal Comedy Showwhere both of her performances will air on the CBC, the 12th annual New York Arab-American Comedy Festival, Boston Women in Comedy Festival, and Toronto’s Shedot Festival. In 2018, she was selected as an Audible New Voice at SF Sketchfest, and has opened for Baron Vaughn, Gina Yashere, Moshe Kasher, and Eric Andre among others. As a writer, she has penned articles for Hello Giggles, Essence Magazine, and Vice Canada.
