The first Blingles Event was held Sept. 30th at Hush Underbar, (it was an interactive, and entertaining event), there were 220 people there and you guessed it... Oh Brother Where Art Thou?...The sisters were there in full swing... Since then our Ratio of Men to women has improved, Blingles Eve 110 People 40 men and 60 women- Spring Bling - 60 people 40 women and 20 men but this is going to be our first Main Event for 2006 and we are hoping that more brothas will attend this event.

We have had a lot of positive feedback from our smaller and larger events... and we also have membership.

Comments from A Blingles Member

Hi Anne-Marie,

I joined Blingles as another way to meet someone of the opposite sex in my culture. I am tired of the typical club scene and the attitude and expectations that goes with it. Don't get me wrong, I do love clubbing but find everything about it fake! I find that at Blingles it is easier to mix with the opposite sex and there is no "fronting". Everyone I have talked with during any of the Blingles events is down to earth and open. They are all at Blingles for the same reason as I so no one has to put up any fronts or attitude and it makes for a much more comfortable conversation and environment with no pressure to perform or be something that I am not. The maturity factor of the ladies that attend Blingles is another big plus for me. The events are always stimulating and fun with activities that encourage people to mingle thereby making a very friendly and none threatening atmosphere to meet the opposite sex that understands my culture. It is nice to be able to say hello and introduce yourself to a female without her giving me the once over and the look of ..."what's your motive" or "what game are you trying to run" ... on her face for a change. I have tried other dating services, speed dating, internet dating etc. These cater more to people that are not of our culture and frankly, I have had little success with them and none of them does anything for me personally. Where else can you mingle with comfort amongst our own kind and not have to pretend you are LL Cool J, 50 cent or Denzel Washington?

These are the reasons that brings me back to Blingles. It's time we had this type of activity geared for us for a change. There sure are enough of us minorities in this city.
